Yes, and this applies to so much more than bad code. The entire 80s, 90s, and 2000s are full of movies about how worthless people's co-workers are, and how meaningless most corporate jobs are. Everyone has a million stories about how nobody at their job knows anything: how they have multiple coworkers who don't do anything and never get fired, or they're so bad at their job that they just create more work for everyone else. And we all have met dozens or hundreds or thousands of people who confess that they and all their co-workers checked out a long time ago, and they do the bare minimum to get by. Yet somehow, after doing the math on this and realizing this is millions and millions of people we're talking about, when the topic of AI comes up, it is somehow being compared to the brightest minds of our age Instead of the millions of people that everyone knows are there. Smart and talented and dedicated people who work anywhere are likely to have MORE work than they did before AI. But that's not who you should be comparing AI to when you talk about worker replacement. The bar for replacing some massive percentage of knowledge workers is basically sitting on the ground because a massive number of those workers checked out a long time ago. They don't care about their job, are not improving at their job, and honestly only do the work at all whatsoever because they're being paid for it. The only thing stopping AI from replacing the vast majority of this group of people is integration issues. Basically, the piping and wiring to properly connect an AI to all the different systems that a person uses and to be able to switch between them and get tasks done.
